Winter High School Girls ‘Friendlies’ 2024/2025
League Director: Philip Douse
pdouse@oaklandyard.com
Last winter 24 high school girl’s teams (freshmen, JV, and varsity I & II) played in this winter program. Teams are placed into one of three divisions - divisions are ability based. Strong JV programs are permitted to play up as are weak varsity programs allowed to play down. It is our intention to form divisions of equally talented teams for kids to get competitive games throughout the winter.
Standings are not recorded; this is an organized series of ‘friendly’ matches throughout the winter against like quality opponents. Programs entering more than one team are permitted to shuttle players between teams to ensure competitive numbers and for coaches to assess players in different positions, teammates, etc… We understand this off-season prep program is a major opportunity for teams to train together in real life competitive games. Allowing kids to play as often as possible with their class mates in anticipation of the spring outdoor season is critical to organizing the best team as possible come the spring ’25 outdoor high school girls programs. Players need to wear their OYA provided team shirt.
Games will be played only on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday only) starting Saturday, November 30, 2024 through March 8, 2025. Game times on Saturday’s will vary between 8am and 9pm starts. Sunday’s start times will vary between 8am and 6pm. No games will be scheduled Super Bowl Sunday after 3pm or winter break February 15 and 16, 2025.
Take a moment to give us your best assessment of the kids joining the team. Player eligibility: must be enrolled in high school academic courses (home school, private school or public school). Strong U14 girl’s travel teams are granted exception into league.
Absolutely no post high school / college students allowed.
All games will be 11v11 with off sides called. OYA uses a two-man officiating crew. Scheduling requests will be taken but not guaranteed. All teams will have games prior to the Christmas break without exception.
If schools would like to meet all of the players interested in playing, consider having the meeting at OYA and combining it with a practice? This is a free option, several schools take advantage of this annually. These sign-up training sessions usually take place in October or November, advanced reservations are needed. Sessions are usually two hours; 30 minutes of meeting prior to a 90 minute practice. Each team determines their own shirt colors based on first deposited.
Player contact information needs to be on file with league director prior to first game. Roster information required: players name, telephone number, and email - parental signatures not required.
Fee includes 10-games, all referee fees, set of game shirts (25) per team and a 1-hour pre-season indoor practice if committed by 10/8/24. Schools entering more than one team will receive the same color sets of shirts for easy shuttling of players between teams. Indoor practice must be used by 11/26/24. Teams are permitted to schedule their practice time after commitment to the program. To reserve a team spot, new teams to the program need to submit a non-refundable deposit of $400. Returning teams just need to communicate their needs to director Philip Douse. This program is open on a first come, first in basis. Team balances required by first scheduled game.
