Children interested in flying into the wild blue yonder should definitely participate in this camp! Chip Rasher, Pontiac Flight Service’s owner, will be overseeing this exciting camp. Boys and girls, ages 10 and up are eligible for this 4-day program. Groups of three, with instructor, will share time in their own Cessna 172 throughout the week.

Monday – In the classroom, campers will spend time learning the fundamentals of flight, how to do a preflight, the basics of aircraft instruments and Aircraft OPS. Classroom time 2.5 hours.

Tuesday – Campers will spend their time in the air concentrating on preflight, turns, climbs, descents, flight altitude, and basic maneuvers. Flight time 2.0 hours.

Wednesday – Preflight, maneuvers, pattern work and takeoffs and landings will be the day’s topics. Flight time 2.0 hours.

Thursday – The week will culminate in a cross-state trip to Kalamazoo Airport where campers will have lunch. Flight time 3.0 hours.
Campers will receive a flight logbook in which they will be able to log their stick time. This will then be signed by their instructor and can later be applied as flight credit toward their private pilot’s license. The FAA requires 40 hours of flight time with an instructor for licensing.

Friday will be reserved as a makeup day in case of inclement weather. Cost includes all flying, lunch on Thursday, and flight logbook.

This is an Off-Site camp, transportation costs apply as follow:

What's What at OYA
Oakland Yard Summer Camps is continuing our passport program to ensure that we are a leader in safety by providing a worry free place for parents to leave their children. To accomplish this, we will continue to issue camper passports to all campers. In addition to our passport security measure, we will ask that you park your car and come into our gated-area each day to drop off and pick up your child.

How It Works: Campers will use their passport on a daily basis to check in with their counselors. Counselors will use this passport and the information contained therein as a quick reference for attendance and emergency information.
Upon receipt of your child's passport, we request that you fill in the required information with a pencil.
Campers passports will be returned to each them at the end of the day when their parent checks them out.

There is a one time passport fee of $10 per child. This passport will never expire, it just needs to be updated with your child's current photo each year.

Parents who want to pre-purchase ice cream and candy credits for campers can do so for any amount they desire.

Why do this? It allows kids to have treat without carrying around cash. Our counselors will keep the passports in a safe place during the day then at noon and a predetermined time during lunch club and working parent the campers can redeem their credits for candy or ice cream.

All ice cream and candy costs $1
Oakland Yard is once again offering transportation to and from our off-site camps for a nominal fee.

To take advantage of transportation, kids need to be enrolled in either the Breakfast Club or Lunch Club.
As overnight campers, we loved getting care packages from mom and dad. Our day campers can experience the same thrill with our OYA Mail Call. We have our own official mailbox for you to deposit letters and care packages into when you drop them off in the morning.

We will have Mail Call on Wednesday during Lunch Club, if your child is not in Lunch Club we will deliver the package on Thursday morning.
In the event of rain, Oakland Yard campers will participate in an indoor field day inside the dome. Campers may be asked to participate in activities other than the camp they signed up for.

Camps that generally go about their business on rain days: Sports & Games, Arts & Crafts, Soccer, Hip-Hop and Cheerleading.

There will be no make-up days offered if a rain day should occur, except where noted.
